0427. Marlin Silas Meader (1849 - 1913)
Marlin Silas Meader, son of Paul Nason Meader (1824-1899) [0298] and Elizabeth Carleton (1823-1874), was born at the old house, Colby Hill, Center Haverhill, NH on November 30, 1849 and died on February 12, 1913. He married Ellen Frances Carr, daughter of Joshua Carr and Mary Gary of Brier Hill, on December 20, 1870. She was born at North Haverhill on December 15, 1849.
Ellen F. Carr was educated in the school of Brier Hill and was a student at Newbury Seminary, Newbury, VT. When a young girl of 12 she united with the North Haverhill Methodist Episcopal Church. Throughout her life she served as a Sunday School teacher or wherever she was needed. Before her marriage she taught in her home district and in the town of Bath. She was a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. She later lived on the home farm, after her husband's death, with her son Carl [0542].
Marlin Meader attended the first district school of District No. 10 in Center Haverhill and then went to Newbury Seminary. He finished his schooling at the New Hampshire Methodist Episcopal Seminary, now the Tilton School, at Sanborton, Belknap, NH.
They began married life on the Swift farm purchased of his father. Here his children were born. Later he bought property in Orlando, FL and took his family there for a few years. After returning to New Hampshire he, with his brother Moses [0429] purchased the Swasey meadow at North Haverhill. Later he sold his share to his brother and went to the Glynn farm to care for his father until Paul's death.
After this he bought the David Whicher farm at North Haverhill, where he lived when he died. He was a member of the North Haverhill M. E. Church for 33 years, during which he held many official positions of trust and responsibility. He was a charter member of Pink Granite Grange and one of its early masters. He believed in the temperance cause and was a member of the Republican Party
