0429. Moses Arthur Meader (1858 - 1940)
Moses Arthur Meader, son of Paul Nason Meader (1824-1899) [0298] and Elizabeth Carleton (1823-1874), was born at Center Haverhill, NH on October 3, 1858 and died there July 7, 1940. After attending the town schools of Haverhill, beginning at District No. 10, he entered the Business College at New Hampton. After school life he clerked for merchants at North Haverhill. Later he engaged in the clothing business at Lisbon, NH. In the early 1890's he served as Treasurer for the town. He also had charge of the North Haverhill Creamery when the industry was introduced to the area. From boyhood he had been interested in farming, and in about 1915 he owned the historic John Hazen farm, whose house was reputed to be the oldest in town, built in 1769. He was an Odd Fellow and a Rebecca, and a member of the Pink Granite Grange, as well as a Mason and a member of the Franklin Chapter of the Royal Arch.
On August 23, 1896 Moses Meader married Katherine Child, daughter of William Child, M.D. and Caroline B. Lang of Bath, NH. She was born at Bath on September 22, 1860 and died August 31, 1941 in North Haverhill. She was educated in the town schools of Bath, Haverhill Academy and Oberlin College. After college she spent some 13 years as a successful teacher. She was a charter member of the Coosuck Chapter, D. A. R. and a member of the Pink Granite Grange.
