0409. William Clarence Meader (1877 - 1952)
William Clarence Meader, son of William Francis Meader (1838-1915) [0274] and Jane Stephens (b.1845), was born in the family home at 501 South 8th Street, Minneapolis, MN April 30, 1877. He died there May 8, 1952. He married Mayme Florence Myers, born in Meadville, PA April 4, 1877 and died November 26, 1963 in Los Angeles, CA.
He attended grade and high school in Minneapolis. He worked in various clerical and administrative positions at Swift & Co., Saint Paul and Minnesota Linseed Oil and Paint Co. He later centered on the wholesale lumber industry with the Dummert-Meader Co. He joined Bell Lumber Co. as Secretary-Treasurer from about 1912 to 1926. This was one of the most active suppliers of cedar poles, pilings and ties for the railroads and utilities during a period of great expansion in these industries. From 1926 to 1930 he was active in the radio industry in Chicago, returning to Minneapolis to become Manager, Fidelity Appraisal Co. until his death. He was a lifelong member of Gethsemane Episcopal Church in Minneapolis where he and his brother George [2011] sang as boy tenors. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Minneapolis.
