1198. Joseph Meader (1664 - 1739)
Joseph Meader, son of John Meader (1625-c.1715) [0001] and Abigail Tuttle (1628-1674), was born at Oyster River, NH in 1664 and died in 1739. He signed petitions February 20, 1690, in 1695 and 1710; and in a court case involving a land dispute in 1710 he was a witness, his name recorded as Joseph Meder, sen. About 1705 he administered the estate of his brother Nathaniel [0004]. He died intestate, and Stackpole reported that he also died without issue, indicating that his wife and son had predeceased him.
November 18, 1686 John [0001], then at least past middle age, deeded the lands he had bought of Valentine Hill in 1661 plus 20 acres adjoining, to Joseph, then 22 and very possibly married. The deed admonished him to improve the land, and each year during John's life Joseph was to pay his father half of the annual profit. John's widow was to receive one third. March 27, 1730 Joseph deeded to Daniel [0010] the 80 acres he had received from John [0001]. The deed also made provision for firewood to be delivered as well as apples and grain to Joseph and to his widow if she outlived him.
He married Elizabeth, admitted to the church by the Rev. Hugh Adams June 30, 1723.
A child of Joseph Meader and his wife Elizabeth was:
2752 i. Joseph Meader, Jr., born about 1690 and died before 1728.
