0481. Frederick Perkins Meader (1872 - 1944)
Frederick Perkins Meader, son of James D. Meader (1851-1919) [0379] and Emma Perkins (1844-1924), was born September 25, 1872 in Newmarket, NH and died January 18, 1944 in Rochester, NH. In 1892 he married Emma Reynolds of Dover, NH. She was born May 29, 1864 and died March 24, 1963 in West Lebanon, Maine.
For many years he operated a music and stationery store at 5 Hanson Street, Rochester. He became greatly interested in the Meader Garrison and the Meader lands on Dover Point, and he finally bought the tip of the peninsula, on which he built a cottage on what he was convinced was the site of the Garrison House. After his death the property was sold, but his family erected on the grounds of the cottage, in the garden to the east of the house, a bronze tablet let into a stone to mark the supposed site of the Meader Garrison House. Controversy still rages over whether this site or that owned by Edward Emerson a mile or so west on the same Dover-Durham road, US #4, is the correct one.
The children of Frederick Meader and Emma Reynolds were:
0587 i. James Lawrence Meader, born May 31, 1893 and died October 31, 1974.
0588 ii. Norman Daniel Meader, born November 24, 1894.
