0131. Lydia Meader (c.1767 - 1855)
Lydia Meader, daughter of Samuel Meader (1745-1800) [0049] and Ruth Hill (d.1814), was born in Barrington, NH about 1767 and died in 1855. On March 15, 1788 [Volume I shows January 15] at Peacham, VT, she married Joshua Otis, born March 30, 1764 and died March 4, 1834. He served in the Revolutionary War and was a volunteer in the War of 1812. They lived for seven years in Barrington. In 1794 the family moved to Wheelock, Caledonia, VT, and thence to Danville and then Peacham, where they lived for 15 years. Then they moved to Parishville, St. Lawrence, NY where he died.
The children of Lydia Meader and Joshua Otis were:
i. Susan Otis, born in Barrington November 7, 1788. She married Phineas Lee and had four children.
ii. Jane Otis, twin to Susan.
She married:
1) Elijah Otis on May 13, 1811.
2) a Rollins, by whom she had three sons.
iii. Stephen Otis, born in Barrington about 1792. He died in Franklin County, NY while in the Army during the War of 1812. He was unmarried.
iv. Samuel Otis, born in Barrington December 16, 1792. He married Lucy Ayers and settled in St. Lawrence County, NY. They had 15 children.
v. Daniel Otis, born December 6, 1794 in Wheelock, VT. He married Sophia Butler in East Piermont, Grafton, NH, where they lived. He was wounded in the War of 1812 and pensioned. They had seven children.
vi. Joshua Otis, who died at the age of 7.
vii. Jacob Otis, who married Elsie Bryant. They lived in Michigan.
viii. John Otis, who married Louisa Preston. They lived in St. Lawrence County. They had children.
ix. George Washington Otis, who married Eliza Holmes. They lived in Lowell, MA. They had children.
x. Betsey Otis, who married Jacob McDaniels. They had six children.
xl. Thomas Jefferson Otis, who married Rebecca Pratt. They had children.
xii. James Madison Otis, who married and had children. They settled in Indiana.
