Alice Gertrude Meader, daughter of Albert Eli Meader (1875-1974) [0424] and Eunietta Scruton (1879-1917), was born November 22, 1906 in Rochester, NH.
She attended Meaderboro Corner elementary school, where Ida Brackett Meader [0421] was teaching, graduated from the New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Boston and from Columbia University Teachers College Nursing Education Department in 1939 with the B.S. degree. She was a science instructor and/or supervisor of instruction at the Central Maine General Hospital, 1930-4; New York Medical College and Flower-Fifth Avenue Hospital, 1934-6; Holyoke Hospital, 1936-51; and chemist, Strathmore Paper Co., West Springfield, MA, 1951-71. During World War II she was on the Nurse Selection Board, Holyoke, MA, member of the Red Cross Nursing Service and supervisor of instruction. Nurse Cadet Corps. A member of the First Baptist Church in Holyoke, she had in 1977 served four three-year terms on the Diaconate Board.
June 15, 1939 in Holyoke she married 0. Leonard Moquin, born February 15, 1909 the son of Rene Jean Moquin and Lillian Dragon. From 1932 until his retirement in 1972 he was with the Holyoke Public Library, eventually Acting Director.
The children of Alice Meader and Leonard Moquin were:
i. Priscilla Lillian Moquin, born June 7, 1940. She was graduated from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee, MA. On June 30, 1962 in Holyoke she married Roland J. B. Goddu, born August 1, 1936 in Holyoke, son of Jean-Berchmans Goddu and Irene M. Quenneville. He had his A.A. and A.B. degrees from Oblate College, his M.Ed. from the University of MA and his Ed.D. from Harvard. In 1977 he was appointed Dean of the College of Education, Northeastern University, Boston. They had three children and lived in Durham.
ii. Susanne Eunietta Moquin, born April 18, 1942. She lived unmarried in Easthampton, MA. She was graduated from the College of Our Lady of the Elms with her B.S. degree in 1964 and from the University of Massachusetts in 1966 with her M.S. in microbiology. In 1977 she was a microbiologist at Tufts New England Medical Center Hospital in Boston.
