Mary H. Meader, daughter of Joel Meader (1781-a.1850) [0123] and Rebecca Austin ( - ), was born March 13, 1813 in Ferrisburg VT and died in Greenwood County, IA March 30, 1889. Perhaps in 1828 in Farnham, Canada she married Daniel P. Spencer, born in Vermont or RI about 1803 and died June 20, 1889 in Greenwood County
. At the time of the 1850 Census they lived in Noble Township, La Porte, IN; in 1870 in Cass County, Pymosa Township, IA. In 1860 they were living in Polk County, IA. In 1883 they moved to Madison, Greenwood County, where they died and were buried.
The children of Mary Meader and Daniel Spencer were:
i. Ezekiel Spencer, born in 1830 in Canada.
ii. Michael Spencer, born in 1832 in Canada.
iii. Rebecca Spencer, born in 1834 in Elkhart, IN.
iv. Nancy Spencer, born in 1836 in Elkhart. August 26, 1858 she married Philander Huntley, son of Seth I. Huntley and Fannie Phelps, in Johnson County, IA. There were no children.
v. Melissa Jane Spencer, born January 12, 1842 in Elkhart and died in Ellensburg, WA April 21, 1910. In 1859 she married Potter Benjamin Craig, son of Benjamin Craig and Wealthy Wooster, in Johnson County. He was born about 1835 in New York and died in Summerville, OR October 8, 1906. Both were buried in Summerville. They had five children.
vi. John W. Spencer, born January 28, 1844 in Elkhart and died January 1, 1918 in Paxton, Keith, NE, where he was buried. He married Eva E. Bagley-Riegel March 4, 1874 in Cass, IA. She died April 9, 1926 in Madrid, Polk, IA and was buried there. They had seven children.
vii. Andrew Jackson Spencer, born in 1847, probably in Elkhart. He was not married. He died January 5, 1930 in Madison.
viii. Mahala Spencer, born in 1848 in Elkhart. She married David Bagley July 26, 1872 in Cass. There were three children.
ix. Ann Spencer, born in 1851 in La Porte, IN. She married a McVey.
x. Eliza Spencer, born in 1855. She remained single. She died in the Methodist Home, Topeka, Kansas December 12, 1945 and was buried in Greenwood, KS.
xi. Child born dead in 1856.
