Laura Evelyn Meader, daughter of Robert Eugene Meader (1871-1952) [0455] and Jennie Gibson (1869-1929), was born in Mendon, MI July 3, 1900. At Battle Creek June 21, 1924 she was married by her father to Elmer Louis DeGowin, M.D. of Cheboygan, MI, born September 27, 1901 and died in Iowa City in 1980, the son of Frank Louis DeGowin and Nora Eulalia Duckes. She was graduated from the University of Michigan in 1923 and was involved in many activities later at the University of Iowa, the State of Iowa, and in Iowa City, where they lived.
The child of Laura Meader and Elmer DeGowin was:
i. Richard Louis DeGowin, born May 14, 1934 in Iowa City. June 30, 1957 he married Janice Karen Piper, born October 12, 1936 the daughter of Janice M. Nichols and Mark M. Piper. Richard DeGowin studied at the University of Michigan and took his M.D. degree from the University of Chicago School of Medicine in 1959. He was later Professor of Medicine and Radiology at the University of Iowa. The couple had two children: Robert Louis DeGowin, born November 5, 1962; Willard James DeGowin, born April 3, 1970.
