0401. Delia Letitia Meader (1846 - 1897)
Delia Letitia Meader, daughter of Alvin A. Meader (1820-1905) [0263] and Lydia Sewall (1816-1890), was born December 10, 1846 in Edgecomb, ME. She graduated from the West Chester High School in the class of 1866 and began teaching the same year in the West Chester public schools. She taught continuously until the June preceding her death, with the exception of about two years' absence caused by illness.
At seven years of age she injured her left knee, inflammation set in, and her suffering and discomfort increased so much that in January, 1877 she submitted to the surgical operation of resection. In due time she recovered and resumed her teaching.
Near the close of 1895 her health gave way, and in February, 1896 she had two operations for abscess of the kidneys. At the close of the 1897 school year she was operated on again, and she died July 1, 1897. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
