0154. Tobias Meader (1805 1889)
Tobias Meader, son of Stephen Meader (1782-1856) [0062]
and Sarah Whitehouse (1780-1858), was born in Rochester, NH October 18, 1805
and died there November 12, 1889, in his 85th year. December 3, 1835 he married
Phebe Hoag Meader [1531], daughter of Valentine Meader [0106]
and Phebe Hoag, his fifth cousin. She was born May 4, 1816 and died December
20, 1864. The couple lived in Meaderboro. The Rochester
Courier of November 15, 1889 carried an obituary:
He died at the residence of Job Varney at Chestnut Hill, aged
84 years. He was born at the homestead in Meaderboro, where his father and grandfather

0022] ] lived before him. When a young man he went to Dover and established
himself in the grocery business. He remained in the business until 1853 when
he sold out and went on a farm in Meaderboro, remaining there until 1870, For
a year after that he was associated with his son in the tailoring business, but
finally he sold out and for twelve years made his home with Job Varney. In January,
1888 he was paralyzed in his right side and ever after was an invalid. Every
care was bestowed on him by Mr. Varney's family, and his last days were made
as pleasant as possible. He was a member of the Friends Society, and he was held
in high esteem by all.
