0112. Abigail Meader (1792 – 1832)

Abigail Meader, daughter of Joseph Meader (1753-1820) [0042] and Elizabeth Gould (1756-1814), his second wife, was born February 17, 1792, probably in Rochester, NH, and died January 3, 1832. [According to A. A. Meader, she was born in 1794 and died February 13, 1842.] On September 28, 1820 she married John Knowles, son of Samuel and Sally Knowles of Monkton, Addison, Vermont.

John Knowles was deeply attached to the principles of the Society of Friends and had a great desire that all its members should live in accordance with them. He had a thorough knowledge of the discipline and was an active member of the Society.

The children of Abigail Meader and John Knowles were:
i. Ira Knowles, born October 4, 1821 and died June 11, 1822, before his first birthday.
ii. Ezra Knowles, born April 15, 1823 and died April 7, 1887. He married Lucinda Millard in April, 1858. They had no children.
iii. Ira M. Knowles, born December 31, 1824 and died April 11, 1887.
He married:

1)      Aurelia C. Stearns, who died in October, 1856.

2)      Laura J. Carter on November 11, 1857. They had four children.

iv. Eliza Knowles, born in February, 1827 and died December 29, 1891. On December 3, 1858 she married Robert J. Johnson. They moved, to Iowa and she died there. They had no children.
v. Stephen Knowles, born February 4, 1829 and died May 15, 1831.
vi. William Knowles, born August 8, 1830 and died April 25, 1831, before his first birthday.
