John Meader, son of Nicholas Meader (1754-1836) [0035] and Rachel Allen (1756-1842), was born on Nantucket October 22, 1797 and died July 29, 1874. He married Maria Washburn, daughter of Amaziah and Mary Washburn. A blacksmith, born in 1789 and died January 11, 1879. He lived on Nantucket, but he was persuaded by his brother Reuben [0094] to move to North Easton, MA. He soon left there, however, since his yearnings for his sea-girt home were too strong to resist.
He and his wife were sincere Christians [Society of Friends], manifesting great kindness to all.
On July 29, 1874 he finished shoeing a horse at five in the evening and complained of not feeling well. At six he was found dead in his blacksmith's shop by his son-in-law, Reuben B. Joy. He was 76 years of age and had excellent qualities of character. He was much esteemed by the townspeople.
