Col. Byron Herbert Meader, Jr. was born in West Ellsworth, Maine on Monday, 19 May 1919 to Byron Herbert Meader, Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth (Lunney) Meader. He was the second son born to this family. He graduated from the University of Maine, Orono with a BS in 1952 and a Masters of Education in 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in December 1942 and was sent to Guadalcanal and then to the Battle of the Bulge. His 69th Div. linked up with the Russians on April 25 1945 at Torgau, Germany. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. He married Eleanor Ramsdell on 11 August 1946 in Bangor, Maine. This marriage ended in divorce. They had four children, three girls and one boy. Margaret Louise born in 1951; Judith Ann born in 1953, Deborah Anita born in 1955 and a son, Byron Herbert Meader, III born born on 26 September 1957 in Augusta, Maine. He died of Spinal Bifida on 10 October 1957 in Hallowell, Maine and is buried in Ellsworth, Maine in Woodbine Cemetery. Byron married the former Prudence Pease on 29 February 1992 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born in Port Washington, Long Island, New York and had two sons by a previous marriage. Byron died on 12 October 2015 in Rexburg, Idaho of kidney failure. He is interred at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Maricopa, Arizona.

Byron is not interred in the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix. The plans currently are to have his and his late wife, Prudence Pease Meader, ashes interred at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors sometime in 2021.
