0589. William Granville Meader (1883 - 1955)
William Granville Meader, son of Lewis H. Meader (1851-1925) [0485] and Mary Gammell Davol (1858-1946), was born in Warren, RI April 17, 1883. In 1886 his family moved to Providence. He was graduated, from Academy Avenue Grammar School, where his father was principal, Classical High School, and Brown University in 1905. September 1, 1905 he joined the Rhode Island Hospital Trust Company. He left to become Treasurer of the new Attleboro Trust Co. January 10, 1911. May 15, 1919 he became Assistant Treasurer of the Mercantile Bank of the Americas, New York City. October 24, 1919 he went to San Jose, Costa Rica for that bank, returning May 7, 1920. June 10, 1922 he became Manager of the Foreign Department of the Industrial Trust Company, Providence, and in January, 1923 he was made Vice President. He retired May 1, 1948 and died February 16, 1955 in Providence.
He was involved in many outside activities. He was Alumni Treasurer of Sigma Chi; Trustee of the Alumni Fund of Brown University (for which he received an A.M. degree honoris causa); Treasurer of the Central Congregational Church; an active member of the Founders and Patriots of America, the Society of Colonial Wars and Masonic Orders.
He married:
1) Zerrie Fitz Randolph Huntsman April 9, 1910. She was born in Providence February 11, 1885 the daughter of John Fletcher Huntsman and Zerviah Stires Fitz Randolph, and died in Attleboro June 30, 1911. She was descended from Elizabeth Blossom, who came as an infant to Plymouth Colony in 1629, and Edward Fitz Randolph, in direct line from Rolf the Norseman. Other forebears were Nathaniel Fitz Randolph, who gave the land for Princeton University, and James Manning, first President of Brown.

2) Charlotte Hemenway March 26, 1917 in Waukesha, WI. She was born September 25, 1881 in Waukon, IA the daughter of Grant Cullen Hemenway and Minnie Charlotte Earle, of Colorado Springs. Of their ancestors, Ralph Hemenway was in Roxbury, MA in 1634, and when he died in 1678, "of great age," he was one of the two wealthiest men in town. Ralph Earle was in Newport, RI in 1638. Charlotte Hemenway "was educated in Colorado Springs and in Paris. She graduated in 1913 from the Waltham, MA Training School for Nurses. After service as a District Nurse in Cambridge she became Supervisor Nurse for the Attleboro Anti-Tuberculosis Society, of which the President was her future husband. She moved to Milwaukee as a nurse under Dr. Greeley, whose wife was her dear friend. During her training as a nurse she spent a summer at Dr. Grenfell's mission in Labrador.

In photo of Meader children in which the older woman in the back is identified as Blossom is incorrect.
That person is older than blossom's age 12 when she died. Charlotte Earle, in front of the woman in the photo and about 5 years old here, was two when Blossom died in 1925.
