0527. Raymond Brackett Meader (1898 - 1970)
Raymond Brackett Meader, son of Willis E. Meader (1867-1929) [0421] and Ida Brackett (1869-1948), was born in Rochester, NH May 21, 1898 and died in North Reading, MA November 30, 1970. In June, 1921 he married Gladys Helen Nickerson, born November 7, 1899 in Boston, MA.
He attended the University of New Hampshire at Durham. During World War I he left school to enlist in the Navy, where he served as radio operator in the submarine service. He returned to the University for completion of his education.
He was employed by the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company as a radio and telephone engineer in Lynn, MA, and he did pioneer work in the development of microwave circuits. In 1941 he moved to Melrose, MA and shortly thereafter he was recalled to active Navy service. He was a communications officer with Eisenhower's staff in North Africa and during the invasion of Sicily. He completed his tour of duty as a captain at the Naval base in Bermuda. His hobby was amateur radio, the call letters W1KG.
