0453. Lyle Daniel Meader (1874 – 1946)

Lyle Daniel Meader, son of Jerome Meader (1849-1913) [0347] and Martha Martin (  –  ), was born December 5, 1874 in Schuylerville, NY and died February 20, 1946 in Schenectady. June 17, 1899 in Chelsea, MA he married Edith Florence May, born August 8, 1876 in Chelsea the daughter of William Wallace May and Eunice Noonan. He was eleven years old when his mother died in 1886. After her death he stayed for a time with the Brinkerman family in Schuylerville, then lived with relatives, probably in the area of New Bedford, MA in his early twenties he lived with relatives in Providence, possibly his aunt Phoebe Ann Meader Thomas [0345]. At the time of the Spanish American War he enlisted in June, 1898 as a private in Light Battery A, First RI Volunteer Artillery, and was discharged in October, 1898. He then lived in the area of Boston.

In 1903 he was employed by the General Electric Company and worked in various locations until his retirement in 1945. He was a general foreman in the Large Motor-Generator Department. In 1930 he was sent by the company to Russia for about three years as a supervisor of the installation of GE hydro generators in the largest hydro dam and power station in Europe, the Dneproges Dam on the Dnepr River.
