Valentine Meader, son of Joseph Meader (1788-1864) [0110] and Mehitable Varney (1789-1862), was born August 5, 1815, probably in Sandwich, NH, and died May 22, 1880 in Lynn, MA. He attended Friends Boarding School [Moses Brown School] in Providence, and taught school for some time. June 1, 1837, in Berwick, ME, he married Mercy Hussey, daughter of Ebenezer and Mercy Hussey of North Berwick, who was born in February, 1811.

He was a bookkeeper in New Bedford. After that he moved to Lynn, MA, where he was a bookkeeper and shoe manufacturer for a time – but he was unsuccessful. Finally he was for many years secretary and treasurer of a fire insurance company and of the Lynn Gas Light Company.
