0213. Lydia Battey Meader (1823 – p.1891)

Lydia Battey Meader, daughter of Valentine Meader (1777-1837) [0106] and Joanna Battey (1791-1816), was born August 16, 1823, probably in Ferrisburg, VT, October 15, 1846 she married Amasa Chace, son of Burgess Chace and Rebecca Chace of Providence. She was prominent in the temperance movement. In 1890 she had for six years been president of the W.C.T.U. of Arkansas. They lived in Shawnee, KS, apparently, as well as Little Rock. Amasa Chace died at Leesburg Lake, FL and was buried at Olathe, Johnson, KS. Lydia Meader was a member of the Society of Friends.

The children of Lydia Meader and Amasa Chace were:
i. Phebe Meader Chace, born February 9, 1850. She married Elwood Barnard, who died October 25, 1884.
ii. Henry Valentine Chace, born April 27, 1852. He married Anne Grace Newby.
iii. Mary Chace, born November 13, 1855. She married Francis A. Wright.
iv. Burgess Thomas Chace, born July 11, 1859. He married Florine Wilson.
