Charles T. Meader, son of Reuben Meader (1794-1881) [0094] and Sarah Swain (1795-1879), was born September 17, 1818, probably on Nantucket, and died in California October 14, 1909. He was a cooper. His intention to marry Sarah Maria Bliss, daughter of Joseph Bliss and Sarah Orne, born June 2, 1818 and died June 23, 1883, was declared December 6, 1840.
He sailed from Nantucket on the ship Sarah Parker, arriving in San Francisco in November, 1849. They were both in California in 1853. Apparently the two older children were left behind when their parents moved to California, and were educated in Boston and lived with their grandparents in North Easton, Bristol, MA.
In California Charles Meader was a trader in company with his father. From 1862 through 1868 the California City Directories list “Meader & Lolor & Co. Importing & Shipping Merchants.” [Charles T. Meader and Charles P. Lolor] and “Meader, Charles T. house: Stockton.”
Sarah Bliss Meader died in Butte, MT, probably while living there with her son, Charles.
